People often tell me that change at work feels risky, scary, maybe even a little dangerous.
But there’s a massive difference between scary and dangerous. Very little of what most of us do at work is actually dangerous. It’s just another day at work. Stressful maybe, tiring certainly, challenging too, but it’s anything but dangerous.
So, why would you ever be reluctant to embrace change? You’ve next to nothing to lose… No risk. no danger, almost no downside…
Here’s my advice: when confronted with an opportunity for change, in most instances the worst thing to do is nothing. Nothing merely guarantees you’re staying exactly where you are, while the rest of the world races forwards without you.
Innovation and progress, you see, thrive on exploration. Taking the wrong path, mis-stepping , stumbling through difficulties are all worthwhile, important parts of the journey.
Don’t fear the effort, don’t be afraid to try.
The only thing you have to fear is standing still and being left behind.
Make the leap.
