It feels like many professionals I talk to have perfected the art of the busy day. Their working routine appears to be a frantic rollercoaster of calendar Tetris (other time-draining distractions are available), multiple concurrent chat sessions, and endless email ping-pong. Even turning up to meetings five minutes late has become a perverse badge of honour.
And yet, despite all the furious pace, their days often end exactly where they started: exhausted, with no visible progress.
This feels like a common problem. Do you feel it?
When we lack a clear view of the contribution we make to the collective progress, it can feel as though we are engaged in performative activity rather than substantive work.
And please don’t get me started on the floods of online content from cash-hungry influencers. You know the ones – they have a bullet-proof shortcuts that helps them complete a whole day’s work in thirty minutes. Those numpties only amplify the yawning sense of futility.
But I do agree: “If AI can do all that, what am I here for?” is a fair question right now.
My work shows that maintaining a Future-Ready Mindset can help reduce this cycle. It forces us to stop obsessing over the volume of inputs by shifting our focus toward making a meaningful contribution to (1) our own and (2) the collective longer-term growth.
The volume of tasks completed each day has never been a smart way to measure productivity, not even on a manufacturing line. Change is so prevalent these days, the only sane measure is how much progress we have created.
Wishing you a productive day 😉
