Three weeks ago I left my role as Head of Digital Marketing Strategy at Microsoft to start a new chapter in my career.
For some time I’ve harboured a dream of running my own company, being more in control of my own destiny and, crucially, being able to help a wider variety of businesses solve their marketing challenges.
And so, after two amazing decades working exclusively for businesses with huge brands and marketing resources, it was time to jump with this quote ringing in my ears:
The most dangerous thing in the world is to try to leap a chasm in two jumps
David Lloyd George, UK Prime Minister, 1941
My new company is called Wild Orange Media Limited. It’s a strategic marketing consultancy, specialising in helping companies adapt and grow in our digital world. Together with my network of technical and functional subject matter experts I now provide consulting and training support to companies looking to improve their sales and marketing approaches to increasingly digitally-savvy customers. We’re not a social media marketing agency, but our knowledge of how to tap into the social media behaviours people exhibit every day runs through everything we do.
I’m also planning to continue to speak regularly at international industry and academic conferences. I really enjoy meeting people face-to-face and helping solve their business challenges. Some of my recent and upcoming talks, as well as a new video, are on the Wild Orange Media website.
And this blog will continue. I may move it to a new place online, but not just yet, and I’d love to hear what topics you’re interested in so I can keep the content fresh and relevant to your needs. The best ways to get in touch are from this blog or via my new contact form.
Thanks for joining me on the journey. Fasten your seatbelt; this could be a wild (orange) ride!
